Apple and Dell are having battery recalls right now as most everyone knows. Apple had some issues with their database early on so if you checked… recheck.

I have had my EVDO card for nearly a year now, and I must say it is the greatest. EVDO is broadband speed wireless over Verizon’s cell phone network. I can take my laptop anywhere, open it up, browse the Internet (FAST!) and get lot’s of work done, no matter where I am. I recently found out that I can use my Blackberry as a modem rather than the PCMCIA card, however this is not quite as nice as you are tethered with a USB cable; convenient not to carry a seperate card, but tied to a cable. Life is full of trade-offs.
Today I came across this article which touts a new ExpressCard offering from Verizon. The pictures look fantastic as far as size and form factor are concerned.
I have a new addiction, Pandora. Pandora calls itself the “music genome
project.” You create “stations” based on artists or songs that you like and it tries to predict what other songs you might like. The amazing thing is - it is VERY good. Unlike Amazon, it does not predict your likes or dislikes based upon what other users have bought, but actually looks at the make up of the music and finds other mucic in that “genome.” Thus, whenever I pull up my Radiohead station it plays other music with “subtle use of vocal harmony, mixed acoustic and electric instrumentation, a vocal-centric aesthetic, and a clear focus on recording studio procuction.” Oh how well it knows me.
For those of you that love your moleskine here is a new Bible with a very similar form factor. I blogged just the other day about how I loved taking notes in my moleskine during sermons. I am not sure if this would work for me, but for those of you with smaller hands that can write in small places this might be idea. Here are a few reviews just for some more information.
More info.
This week the worlds fastest diesel engine broke the diesel engine speed record by over 100 mph, averaging just at 350 mph. The engine was the same type that is used in
Google Apps launches tomorrow…
Google Apps will launch in the morning providing free application based services for your domain name. They will provide email, calendaring, Google Talk, and Page Creator for your domain name. In other words you can have a google mail account but it will be @pcnelson.com, not gmail.com. This may be Google’s first run at Microsoft’s overwhelming domination in the business back office software market. Exchange is the dominant email server in the enterprise realm; is it possible for Google to challenge this with free web based products? Possibly, but I feel that these offerings will fall short for several reasons. Web based email is just that, it is web based. Sure you can use a client to check it, but most security conscious organizations want to know who is administering email clients. In addition it is difficult to meet the special needs of an organization such as Blackberry support. Google Apps may be a super service for the small office just getting off the ground, but for most IT departments it will just not fit the bill. This will be interesting to track for the next few months to see if Google has any success in this market.
Update: Here is a link to the new services from Google
