I have been looking for a new diet

I am a large man and thus am always looking for ways to seem smaller. I will definetely be buying one of these.

Productivity taken too far?

Recently I have become a student of the GTD phenomenon, going so far as to take a daily glimpse at what 43folders has to say. There is no way to implement every idea suggested in the GTD sphere; were one to try they would spend all your time on GTD and never actually get anything done. In the spirit of realizing this rule, I came across this video cast which takes a moment to laugh at all those seconds that we save by doing things more efficiently.

For all my pastor friends…

This is not something that I would ever have occasion to use, however, I can see that it would be a very useful plugin for some of the theologans that I know.  The ESV blog has posted a link to a Microsoft Word plugin that will insert ESV test in Word documents next to the original Greek or Hebrew.

New R.E.M. Best of Collection - ‘82 - ‘87

I was exploring the new version of iTunes tonight when I came across a new Collector’s Edition release of R.E.M.’s I.R.S. years from 1982-1987. It has been some time since I pulled out all of the 80’s R.E.M. albums and went through them. I was inspired to do so this evening.

I am dating myself of course, however, I never cease to be amazed how music has the ability to return us to years gone by. The flood of memories that came over me was nearly overwhelming. I thought of people and places that I have not crossed my radar in years. It was truly fun.

One of my fondest memories was watching R.E.M. open at the Oak Mountain Ampitheatre for the White Animals. Michael Stipe performed two entire sets with his back to the audience. Good stuff.

Tagging in iPhoto

I had a friend inquiring the other night how to organize his iPhoto pictures. He is a little more OCD than myself in that he wanted to be able put all of his pictures into folders according to who was in them. I explained to him that iPhoto was not folder driven, rather it was driven more by a databse. I showed him how keywords could be added to photos, however he was not quite satisfied as the keyword feature in iPhoto is cumbersome at best.

Well, today I found this. This script has been around for sometime however it just went universal. This freeware plugin brings tagging to iPhoto making finding those pictures a breeze once you have added tags to it.

Mac commercials and a little Irony

I am a huge fan of Macs. It is true, “they just work.” I have also become a fan of the new Mac commercials and the fun they poke at Windows, all harmless in my opinion. One of my favorites is the ad about Macs talking so seamlessly to “that new digital camera from Japan… everything just kind of works with a Mac.” This last weekend I bought the new Nikon D80 camera that just came out a few weeks ago. I excitedly clicked off a couple dozen pics of my children, anxiously plug it up to my iMac and, voila, the Mac cannot read the “new” D80 RAW format; how disappointing. It reads older RAW formats from Nikon, just not the one from the “new digital camera from Japan.” I can still take pics in jpeg format until Apple does decide to read the file, however, I could not help but find the irony in my new digital camera not “talking” with the Mac.
