Support Donut Don!
Yes, you heard it here that Gibson’s Donuts now has a competitor only 500 yards away. Crazy you say, well I would have to agree. Next thing you know someone will open a BBQ shop in the Peabody. For a decade now I have taken my children nearly every Saturday morning to Gibson’s for donuts (I have almost reached my goal weight). We have become so attached to our ritual that we no longer call it Gibson’s but Donut Don’s; affectionately named so for the owner.
We go not for the donuts so much, which by the way are the best that can be found, but for the experience. Gibson’s reminds me of Cheer’s, the place where everyone knows your name, only they serve sugar instead of beer. There is nothing quite like the experience of walking into Gibson’s with a loud cheer from Don and hugs all around for the kids. He give my kids a hard time about there bed head and there is always the occasional flying donut from the stack of hot ones in the back.
Thus, the thought of competition for Gibson’s does not worry me because no matter how good the donuts are, they won’t have Don. I do, however, want to call on Memphis to support one of the great establishments of this city. We have already traded the Builder’s Supply for Home Depot, I hope we are not quite ready to do the same for our weekly sugar fix. After all, where else can you go and catch a hot flying donut on a Saturday morning.
