Go TIGERS Go!

go_tigers.png The Memphis Tigers ran away with the game that will take them to the Final Four for the first time since 1985. The city of Memphis could not be more proud of its Tigers and the hard work and effort that they have put into making it to this elite spot in college sports. The Memphis faithful showed up last night in droves at Wilson Air to welcome home their team. The airport authority even treated the team to a special salute by spraying down the plane with water as it taxied to the terminal. Coach Cal has seemed a little defensive in interviews about the win, but rightfully so since the perception around this country was less than favorable about the athletes from Memphis. Guys, keep up the great work and we will work hard to cheer you through to victory this weekend!

Call for a new ATM…

stop.jpg I came across this Web site yesterday as I was doing some reading about the forthcoming doom of the Highway Trust Fund (HTF). It is predicted that next year in 2009 the HTF will be in deficit by $3.9 billion. The National Asphalt Pavement Association has prepared a roadmap to help contracting communities be more proactive in their efforts to bolster the HTF. The bottom line is that next year our government will be out of money for major infrastructure improvements, crippling the maintenance program of an already overloaded system. The only way to fix this situation is to raise the user fee which has not been done since 1992 or to develop all new ways for the motoring public to pay for their use of the roadways. This is of course all happening while China and India are building highway infrastructures that will be larger than that of the U.S. If we are not careful we as a nation will lose our competitive edge in the world economy, which is our ability to move goods swiftly from one end of the country to the other.

bess, popcorn, priceless…

popcorn_today.jpg

Entry fee to largest volleyball tournament in the Southeast - $70
One night stay at the brand new Hilton in downtown Atlanta - $140
Bess setting off the first fire alarm in the new hotel with a burnt bag of popcorn - PRICELESS!
Yes, the fire department stormed the recently opened downtown Hilton Gardens when my daughter, while engrossed in Lost, set off the fire alarm trying to pop popcorn in the microwave. Catherine who was in the lobby decided to see how she would handle it until she saw them run in with axes and was fearful she might not open the door for the fireman. Bess, it will take you a few years to live this one down!

Picture 1.pngupdate: Bess got a link on the tournament web site for this escapade.

Ken Bennett on Fox News Tonight…

DSC03413.jpgTonight Fox News in Memphis will do a feature story on Ken Bennett, the director of Streets Ministries in Memphis, Tn. The interview will feature testimonials from Andre Allen and John Calipari, head coach of the Memphis Tigers and number 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Take some time out tonight or TIVO the newscast at 9pm, it will be exciting to see this servant of God celebrated in the media.

Ken began streets over 20 years ago with a van and a basketball in the Claiborne Foote Housing project in the inner city of Memphis. Since that time Streets has come to occupy a multi-thousand square foot facility on Vance Ave. were hundreds of kids come everyday to be tutored, play basketball, and hear the Gospel presented. The impact that Streets and Ken have had on the city of Memphis is impossible to measure and can only be told by talking to one kid at a time; the same way Ken did it.

Bigsouth outsources the Web site…

kindagood.png

My girls left for the BigSouth volleyball tournament this morning. Upon checking for schedule information we noticed that in the craziness of trying to move the tournament the tournament directors have moved all information updates to kindagood.com. There are some great video and lots of humor to be shared here. All of the information links have been populated on the left side of the page, however the pool and schedule server must be slammed because it is not coming up. Be patient all, it will come available eventually.
