There is a hardly a day that goes by that I don’t take some time out to read David Pogue’s NYT’s blog. I find David to be highly entertaining and knowledgeable about his subject. But possibly some of the best stuff that David does are his song spoofs about technology. His latest is a video musical he did about the latest gadget from Apple. (I won’t mention it by name due to my previous promises). This video is well worth your time and very funny.

Yes, now I am in the millions that have posted blogs on the day of the release. I have read blogs that range from Woz and the Mayor of Philadelphia waiting in line for their phones. There is a weird rumor that AT&T has boosted the speed on their EDGE network. I have seen pictures of lines and people missing a day of work all over a phone. So what does this say about our culture today? Technology is VERY important to us. We have become a generation and a culture that not only loves, but depends on our technology. Apple and the iPhone will change the course of history with this device, or so we are being told, I wonder if that can be true? How can a device such as this really change our world, I guess we will find out. So for just today, Happy iPhone Day!.
I have been doing this for awhile but after speaking with a friend the other day who didn’t know the trick I thought it would be worth sharing. I am a big believer in wishlists. I figure if I mark something as a want or wish, and I still want it a month or two later, it is probably worth buying. This helps to cut down on my impulsive buying. I used to maintain my wishlists on Amazon, but since the Apple Music Store opened I have been buying my tunes there. So how do you maintain a wish list on the iTunes Music Store. In iTunes create a new playlist, to do this press the plus sign in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. I call this new list “Apple Store Wishlist.” I chose this name so that it appears near the top of the list. Then go browse the iTunes music store, you can listen to 30 sec. previews of any song in the store. When you find a song or album that you like simply click and drag the preview into the newly created playlist. All of the previews are stored there until you delete them. Then when you are ready to buy the album or song simply click the “ADD SONG” button and it will go to your shopping cart. Simple, but very useful!

This is a call to all self respecting backyard grillers out there who just have to have access to their tunes while standing over a hot grill. How can you resist the George Foreman iGrill? Yes, even George is jumping off into the wide mania of iProducts. You gotta get you one!

It seems hard to belive that the iPod turns 5 tomorrow. I still have my first generation iPod, though the HD crashed on it a few years ago. I lost it for a while but came across it just last week. I showed it to my kids and they acted like it was as obsolete as the casette tape commenting, “it is huge!”
How is it that only five years have passed since that white little box came into my life? The 1G iPod had a scroll wheel that actually physically moved, which by the way still feels better than the touch models today. I splurged when I bought mine and got the 10 gig version remarking that I would never be able to fill that up, only to regret that statement a few months later. The iPod has certainly become an icon of today’s culture in a very short period of time. Thus, happy birthday iPod, we are certainly glad to have you in our lives.
The George Foreman grill you gotta have…
