I have had my EVDO card for nearly a year now, and I must say it is the greatest. EVDO is broadband speed wireless over Verizon’s cell phone network. I can take my laptop anywhere, open it up, browse the Internet (FAST!) and get lot’s of work done, no matter where I am. I recently found out that I can use my Blackberry as a modem rather than the PCMCIA card, however this is not quite as nice as you are tethered with a USB cable; convenient not to carry a seperate card, but tied to a cable. Life is full of trade-offs.
Today I came across this article which touts a new ExpressCard offering from Verizon. The pictures look fantastic as far as size and form factor are concerned.
I have a new addiction, Pandora. Pandora calls itself the “music genome
project.” You create “stations” based on artists or songs that you like and it tries to predict what other songs you might like. The amazing thing is - it is VERY good. Unlike Amazon, it does not predict your likes or dislikes based upon what other users have bought, but actually looks at the make up of the music and finds other mucic in that “genome.” Thus, whenever I pull up my Radiohead station it plays other music with “subtle use of vocal harmony, mixed acoustic and electric instrumentation, a vocal-centric aesthetic, and a clear focus on recording studio procuction.” Oh how well it knows me.
This is a true statement about the times in which we live. I am just not sure what it says.
I did not realize that the marriage between rednecks and geeks was so complete that it was socially acceptable today to “light” your iPod for your favorite band. Who needs to flick a bic when you can light your iPod? So the next time you are at a Bon Jovi concert save the fuel and pull out the iPod - what rocker would not be honored by such a tribute?
